The FCA Business Plan – key themes in relation to DE&I and Culture

Join us for the next session in our series of DE&I Training webinars. In this session, Holly and Nikki will explore the FCA’s latest proposals on diversity and inclusion. They’ll cover strategies for improving workplace diversity, new data reporting requirements, and aligning DE&I goals with regulatory expectations. Learn how to foster an inclusive culture, ensure accountability, and support the FCA’s focus on fair treatment of customers.

 Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, delegates will be able to:

  • Explain the potential impact of CP23/20 Diversity and inclusion in the financial sector: We will explore the proposals for the new regulatory framework including mandatory strategies and specific goals for improving diversity, plans to meet these objectives. HR departments will need to ensure these strategies address underrepresentation in senior roles and across various demographic groups. For larger firms this will regular public updates on the demographic makeup of their workforce and progress towards inclusion targets.
  • Outline the application of diversity targets and the proposed data collection and reporting obligations: A key feature of CP23/20 is the requirement for regulated firms to collect and report diversity data annually. This includes a broad range of demographic characteristics and inclusion metrics. Insurance firms must gather detailed information on gender, ethnicity, and other diversity categories to provide comprehensive reports to the FCA but underpinning a robust culture and supporting oversight other measures such as effectiveness of leadership, reward and people management must be considered.
  • Summarise how to support DE&I culture and align it with the FCA Business Plan: We will understand how leaders in the business are to be held accountable for progress and oversight. We will discuss practical strategies for managing and promoting a culture that supports DE&I and reduces misconduct to create an environment conducive to modern/evolving workplaces. This includes considering that senior managers and staff whose conduct negatively affects workplace culture or public confidence may be considered unfit for their roles.
  • Explain the link between DE&I and the FCA’s focus on consumer protection: We will understand how ensuring that firms treat their customers fairly aligns with broader FCA DE&I goals, setting higher standards to protect vulnerable customers and promote positive change.
