Reflections on the

Day’s Sessions:

Insights and Takeaways

John Lloyd OBE, Chairman, McGill & Partners

Drawing on decades of experience building one of the world’s leading specialty insurance businesses, John shared his perspective on the fast-changing dynamics of the global insurance market, the opportunities for MGAs, and the leadership qualities required to thrive in an increasingly competitive and technology-driven environment.

Head-to-Head: As a Sector, What Do We Need to Design Now to Succeed in the Future?

The session served as a timely reminder that designing for success is not about predicting the future with certainty, but about building stronger businesses today. By combining specialist expertise with better data, disciplined underwriting, technology that genuinely enables people, and an unwavering focus on customer service, MGAs are well placed to continue leading innovation across the insurance market.

Tech Panel: AI Transition

Rather than debating whether AI will transform the industry – it already is – the discussion focused on how organisations can adopt AI in ways that genuinely improve businesses while protecting the expertise, relationships and culture that underpin the insurance market.

FCA Update with Andrew Ruddle

Andrew highlighted the four main priority areas set out in the FCA’s regulatory priorities report: improving consumer understanding, claims handling and service quality, supporting growth and innovation, simplifying regulation, and increasing access to insurance. He stressed that innovation and consumer protection should be viewed as complementary goals, rather than competing priorities.

Fireside Chat with David Bearman

With David’s focus on the primacy of talent, he was keen to point out that the insurance industry must do a better job of promoting itself to attract more school leavers and graduates.

Claims Panel: The Moment of Truth

The discussion opened with an assessment of the current claims experience. Despite continued investment, claims services remain an afterthought for many businesses, with technological transformation often focused elsewhere.

Celebrity Speaker: Jo Fairley, Co-Founder, Green & Black’s Chocolate

The MGAA Conference 2026 concluded its programme with an inspiring keynote from entrepreneur, author and broadcaster Jo Fairley, whose remarkable journey perfectly reflected this year’s conference theme, Specialty Insurance – Designed to Succeed.
