About this session
This MGAA webinar, hosted by the MGAA and jointly presented by Mark Kirby, Professional Services Director and Matthew Geyman, Managing Director at Intersys, explores the growing need for structured governance as artificial intelligence becomes more widely used across the insurance market. As MGAs, insurers and brokers adopt generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft Copilot, organisations must ensure that innovation is supported by clear policies, controls and regulatory awareness.
The session introduces the Intersys AI in the Workplace Governance Policy Template, a practical framework designed to help firms manage the operational, regulatory and data risks associated with AI adoption. The template provides a ready to use policy that supports responsible AI use, strengthens internal controls and helps guide staff behaviour.
The webinar also examines the evolving regulatory landscape, key risks such as data leakage, bias and model misuse, and how AI governance can align with existing risk management, IT security and operational resilience frameworks while enabling organisations to adopt AI safely and effectively.
Learning Objectives
1) Understand the emerging AI regulatory landscape relevant to MGAs and the insurance market
Identify key regulatory drivers (e.g., FCA expectations, ICO guidance, operational resilience requirements) that shape AI governance in insurance. Recognise the compliance risks associated with generative AI adoption across underwriting, claims, distribution, and back-office operations.
2) Explain core principles of effective AI governance within an MGA environment
Articulate what “responsible AI use” means in practice for staff, suppliers, and delegated authority partners. Understand how governance aligns with existing frameworks such as risk management, IT security, and data protection.
3) Apply the Intersys AI in the Workplace Governance Policy Template to real-world MGA operations
Identify the key components of the policy template and how they support safe, consistent, and auditable use of AI technologies. Understand how to implement controls, guidelines, and acceptable-use standards across different teams and business units.
4) Assess operational, data, and security risks arising from the use of generative AI tools:
Evaluate where AI presents potential exposure, such as data leakage, hallucinations, bias, third-party risk, and model misuse. Distinguish between low-risk and high-risk use cases for ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and other AI platforms.
