Andy Stevenson
Partner Weightmans
Andy has been involved in insurance and reinsurance law for over 25 years, primarily UK-based but also having spent some time working in the US.
Andy’s practice often involves an international element, having worked on claims and disputes across Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. He’s also covered multiple classes of business – for instance, aviation, shipping, property damage and business interruption, errors and omissions etc.
For the last 11 years he has also advised the insurance market on international sanctions. This involves advising clients as to what activities are / are not permitted under sanctions law, and applying to the likes of OFSI / OFAC for licences to make payments. He has taken challenges to the Court of Appeal in London and to the General Court of the EU.
He’s therefore one of the few people in London that has genuine expertise on both sanctions and insurance and so routinely gets instructed by insurers, MGAs, brokers and others to advise on difficult issues.
