Gary De Groot

Growth Director Innovation Group

Gary joined Innovation Group in 2019 as Growth Director, bringing over 12 years of diverse experience in the insurance and claims management sector. Throughout his career, he has held senior roles in Sales, Account Management, and Claims Handling, establishing himself as an expert in motor, property, and casualty claims management. His proven ability to build and nurture strategic relationships has been instrumental in driving growth and delivering results.

In his current role, Gary oversees new business development and spearheads initiatives to drive organic growth. He collaborates closely with internal teams to identify opportunities, refine service offerings, and ensure alignment with client needs. Gary has worked extensively with some of the UK’s largest motor and property MGAs, gaining valuable insights into their operations and the strategies that contribute to their success.

Gary’s leadership is defined by a commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions. He is passionate about leveraging technology and data to improve service delivery and create value for clients. His expertise in developing tailored solutions has made him a trusted advisor to clients, enabling them to achieve their business objectives in an evolving market landscape.

Stuart Thorniley

Head of Growth, Property Innovation Group

Stuart leads the Growth team within Innovation Group’s property division, looking after the Account Management team and Business Development, driving strategic initiatives and delivering insight across the sector. With over 15 years of experience working with a broad range of insurers, MGAs, and corporate clients, his background as both a solicitor and a business development professional brings a well-rounded perspective to industry challenges. Stuart plays a key role in shaping long-term strategies, championing innovation, and identifying opportunities to deliver added value across the property claims landscape.

Wayne Calderbank

Business Services Director Innovation Group

Wayne Calderbank has nearly 30 years of experience in the insurance and claims sector and is well known for his strategic leadership and deep expertise in data, performance, and transformation. As Business Services Director at Innovation Group, he currently leads the delivery of claims solutions including Data, Analytics, AI, Fraud, Recoveries, Auditing, Reporting and Customer Experience. Prior to joining Innovation Group, Wayne served as Group Data and Performance Director at Claims Consortium Group, where he drove enterprise-wide data strategy and performance optimisation across complex claims environments. His earlier role as Head of Data Science at Crawford & Company saw him pioneering advanced analytics to enhance decision-making and customer outcomes.

Wayne’s career foundation was built at AXA, where he spent over two decades in progressively senior roles—from UK Data Strategy Manager for Claims Transformation to leadership positions in casualty claims, risk, planning, and analytics. His tenure reflects a rare depth of insight into the full claim’s lifecycle, regulatory frameworks, and the evolving demands of the insurance landscape.

With a reputation for blending technical acumen with strategic vision, Wayne is passionate about building resilient systems, empowering teams, and delivering measurable impact in a rapidly changing industry, driving data strategies and automation.

Claire O’Driscoll

Strategic Account Manager, Motor Innovation Group

Claire began her career at Innovation Group within Operations, progressing to Operations Manager in the Motor division. In February 2023, she transitioned to the Growth Team as a Strategic Account Manager.

Her extensive Operations background equips her with the ability to navigate complex challenges, while her strong analytical skills drive impactful results for clients. Claire is passionate about problem-solving and process improvement, and her proactive approach creates positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues and stakeholders every day.

Michael Lewis

Co-Founder Claim Technology

Michael has over 30 years’ experience in senior leadership roles spanning operations, technology, and systems design. He is the co-founder of Claim Technology, an award-winning platform transforming the insurance claims experience through advanced automation and decision systems.

Alongside his commercial work, Michael conducts independent research across physics, mathematics, and information science, focused on the behaviour, stability, and failure modes of complex systems. This research informs practical work on the design of non-organic, artificially intelligent systems, including architectural approaches to building reliable and accountable AI. Several patents arising from this work are currently in preparation.

Michael is also writing his first book on system design, examining how system design can be applied within business and civic institutions to improve accountability, fairness and long-term resilience.

He is an alumnus of the London School of Economics, and enjoys reading, slow travel and cycling.
