Root: The API-driven Future of Policy Administration and Bordereaux Management for MGAs

The MGA market is heading into 2026 with a clear shift in priorities. Discussions around digital transformation are no longer abstract or speculative, they are rooted in very real challenges around policy administration, data handling and distribution connectivity. As MGAs look to strengthen performance and sharpen their operational edge, the importance of modern, API enabled policy administration and reliable bordereaux management is becoming hard to ignore.
Recent industry benchmarks show just how fast API adoption has grown. Eighty six carriers are now offering API enabled products according to the 2024 Insurance API Index, and by mid 2025, more than 75 percent of firms had embedded APIs into their digital operations. This shift is not only supporting new distribution opportunities, it is transforming the way MGAs handle the fundamentals of their business.
Policy administration has traditionally been slowed by manual workflows, fragmented systems and limited integration options. APIs allow these processes to connect directly with pricing engines, capacity providers, brokers and claims services. Instead of rekeying data or reconciling mismatched formats, MGAs can move information through the chain cleanly and consistently.
Modular Product Design Brings Fresh Transparency
Bordereaux management is one of the areas where modular, API-enabled infrastructure delivers the most immediate and transformative value. Traditionally, BDX processes have been a persistent friction point for MGAs and carriers alike: inconsistent formats, late submissions, manual reconciliation and spreadsheet-heavy workflows all contributed to operational drag and unnecessary exposure.
By enabling data to flow directly between systems, API connectivity shifts bordereaux reporting from a static, retrospective exercise to a dynamic, near real-time process. Instead of relying on fragmented spreadsheets, MGAs and capacity providers can exchange structured data at the source, improving accuracy, eliminating rekeying, and dramatically reducing the opportunity for human error.
For MGAs, this means greater control over reporting obligations and a more reliable foundation for capacity relationships. For carriers, it delivers cleaner, timelier oversight and a single version of the truth, strengthening governance and risk management. And because these data flows sit within a modular, API-enabled ecosystem, BDX reporting becomes naturally aligned with broader regulatory expectations, including Consumer Duty and delegated authority requirements.
The result is a more transparent, collaborative and scalable value chain. With distribution partners, MGAs and carriers all connected via API, innovation can flourish, and the industry can finally move past the administrative weight of traditional bordereaux management.

Speed, Clarity and Collaboration in 2026 and Beyond
The shift to cloud native environments and smarter data pipelines is helping MGAs deliver products to market far more quickly. AI tools are enhancing risk assessment and rating, while APIs are simplifying everything from endorsements to bordereaux reconciliation. The result is an ecosystem where MGAs, insurers and suppliers can collaborate more freely and with clearer visibility across the entire policy lifecycle.
At Root, our API-first platform was built with exactly this kind of connectivity in mind. From product design to distribution, policy administration and data reporting, the system is designed to support MGAs who want to operate with greater agility and confidence.
There will always be challenges as the industry moves into more modular and data driven territory. More granular product structures and faster data flows bring new considerations for risk management and oversight. What is clear, though, is that the direction of travel is well established. MGAs, carriers and suppliers are all pushing toward a more connected environment where policy administration and bordereaux management are no longer stumbling blocks but efficient, predictable parts of the workflow.
With the right technology and the right partnerships in place, 2026 looks set to be a year where the MGA ecosystem becomes genuinely integrated, reliable and ready for the next stage of digital growth.

Outrun: Bordereaux Accuracy – An Unfixable Problem?
It isn’t a process flaw, it’s a data architecture problem The market often talks about the need to improve bordereaux processes in order to deliver high quality, accurate data to capacity providers. The real issue though lies deeper. It isn’t about better checklists or stricter review; it’s about the underlying data architecture. And...

Recorder: Fixing Delegated Data at the Point It Breaks – How Recorder Is Building the First Real Data Standard for Delegated Authority
Delegated authority lives and dies by the bordereaux, so why are they such a point of friction? They arrive late, lack structure, contradict each other, and leave capacity providers blind for weeks. An excess of time is then spent interpreting and reconciling data that should have been correct from the start. Recorder’s DA product tackles...
