The Rise of Delegated Authority: Key Insights from MGAA’s Breakfast Briefing with SiriusPoint

Events & Conferences

5th February 2026

The MGAA was delighted to welcome members and industry leaders to our recent breakfast briefing with SiriusPoint, held at the Lloyd’s Old Library. With a fantastic turnout from across the market, the event brought together leaders, innovators and practitioners to explore the evolving role of Delegated Authority (DA) and what the future holds for MGAs, carriers and Lloyd’s.

Chaired by MGAA CEO Michael Keating, the panel featured:

  • Tom Downey, CEO, Pen Underwriting
  • Rob Gibbs, CEO and President, SiriusPoint International
  • Ilias Tsakiris, CEO, Hellenic Hull Management
  • Laura Hancock, Managing Director, Yutree Underwriting

Delegated Authority continues to play a central role in the distribution of specialist and niche insurance products. As the market matures, competition for high-quality capacity is intensifying, and both MGAs and carriers are under pressure to demonstrate operational excellence, robust governance and strong customer outcomes. A clear theme from the session was that innovation and efficiency are no longer “nice to have” – they are fundamental to sustainable growth across the delegated authority landscape.

Key takeaways from the panel

Structured data is now the baseline. Clean, standardised and portable data is essential for doing DA business, enabling MGAs and carriers to move beyond fixing data issues and focus instead on higher-value conversations about risk, performance and strategy.

Technology should free up underwriting talent. Automating administrative and operational processes allows underwriters to focus on pricing risk, developing innovative products and staying close to customers, where they add the greatest value.

Customer-centric underwriting will be a differentiator. MGAs that design propositions around real customer needs and evolving risks will be better positioned to stand out in an increasingly competitive DA market.

Strong governance must underpin growth. As DA models evolve, including opportunities around sub-delegation, robust oversight, transparency and data governance are essential to scaling sustainably and maintaining trust between MGAs and capacity providers.

Relationships still drive success. Insurance remains a people business. Long-term capacity partnerships, built on trust, strong communication and modern governance frameworks, are critical to delivering sustainable outcomes.

The session closed with a strong sense of shared purpose, with panellists and attendees aligned on the importance of enhancing customer outcomes, improving operational efficiency and continuing to strengthen collaboration across the DA ecosystem. Improving communication between Lloyd’s and MGAs was highlighted as a key enabler of future growth, helping to reduce friction and unlock further innovation across the market.

MGAA would like to thank SiriusPoint for hosting and sponsoring the event, our expert panellists for their insights, and all attendees for their thoughtful engagement and questions. Events like this highlight the strength and ambition of the delegated authority community, and we look forward to continuing the conversation as the market continues to evolve.
